Roy Keane has revealed that Chelsea target Morgan Rogers reminds him of Paul Gascoigne after the Aston Villa star put in a brilliant performance for England.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has become one of the Premier League's most exciting players since joining Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024.

Rogers is coming off a hugely impressive season, which naturally entailed plenty of speculation about his future over the summer, but he opted to remain at Villa Park.

Chelsea, in particular, have been frequently linked with the England attacker due to their desire to add another offensive-minded midfielder after they missed out on Xavi Simons and Fermin Lopez.

Aston Villa's not-for-sale stance made a summer move impossible, but recent reports have claimed that the Blues could look to test the Birmingham club's resolve with a bid worth up to €100 million next year.

Keane: Rogers plays like Gazza

On Tuesday, Rogers started in the No.10 role for England as Thomas Tuchel's men put a hapless Serbia side to the sword. The 23-year-old notched an assist and proved a constant threat to the Serbian defence in a 5-0 victory.

His classy display saw Rogers lauded by the usually stoic Roy Keane after the game, who went so far as to compare the Villa man to Three Lions legend Paul Gascoigne.

“What he does is give the manager a problem and a brilliant option,” Keane said on ITV. “When you get an opportunity and you perform like that, you’re sending a message to the manager that you’re going to find it hard to leave me out, and that is all these players can do.

“When he gets in a tight area and gets away, he reminds me of Gazza. He just has that thing where you think you’ve got him and then he gets away from you. Just little moments there, he reminds me of Gazza.”
