Chelsea sign 'the next Yamal': Wonderkid 'excites entire country'
Kairat wonderkid Dastan Satpaev, who will join Chelsea in 2026, has been hailed as the 'Kazakh Lamine Yamal.'
Earlier this year, it was announced that the then-16-year-old had been signed by the Blues in a deal worth a reported €4 million. Due to his age, Satpaev can't link up with Chelsea until August 2026.
The teenager, already a five-time senior Kazakhstan international, had burst onto the scene with hometown club Kairat and spent time on trial at Cobham in late 2024 before officially joining Chelsea.
A versatile forward, Satpaev has been hugely impressive for the Almaty outfit. He has scored 15 goals in 35 first-team appearances, including three goals in Champions League qualifying over the summer.
He played the full 90 in Kairat's opening game defeat against Sporting CP and is expected to also feature against Real Madrid on Tuesday after netting a brace in his last domestic outing.
Satpaev praised by friend and foe
With Kairat set to face Real Madrid, Spanish media outlets have taken a keen interest in the side from Kazakhstan's former capital. Naturally, Satpaev has made his way into the headlines, too.
Jose Carrillo, who plays for rival side Ulytau, has described the 17-year-old as the 'Kazakh Lamine Yamal' in an interview with AS. “The one most talked about is Satpaeev," the defender said.
"He’s a 17-year-old on loan from Chelsea who excites the entire country because he’s like their great international ambassador,” Carrillo explained.
"In terms of age, talent, and position, he could be the Kazakh Lamine Yamal, although he’s right-footed and often plays as a playmaker in addition to playing on the wing. A great player.”
Marca, meanwhile, spoke to Satpaev's teammate Luis Mata, who waxed lyrical about the forward. "He's only 17, but he's fast, strong, and finishes very well with both legs," he said.
"He has tremendous potential, which is why Chelsea signed him. He'll probably go out on loan to gain experience, like in this Champions League. I see him with great potential, although football isn't just about that.
"The psychological aspect is also very important, and I think he has that too. Hopefully, he can help us against Real Madrid."
