The Argentine winger, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, registered nine goal contributions in 35 appearances on loan at Leicester City last season and he will provide additional depth for Enzo Maresca’s side during the 2025-26 campaign.

Buonanotte was heavily linked with a loan move to Leeds United during the early weeks of August, however Chelsea entered the race for his signature after missing out on Xavi Simons to Tottenham Hotspur and the Blues quickly finalised a temporary deal for the 20-year-old.

Buonanotte, who has two senior caps for Argentina, is unlikely to establish himself as a starter at Stamford Bridge, after failing to nail down a place at Leicester last term, but he will provide cover for Cole Palmer, who is currently injured.

Upon confirmation of his loan move, Buonanotte told the official Chelsea website: “I’m very happy to join Chelsea. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m just looking to add as much to the squad as possible, help the team and help the staff.”

Buonanotte has become Chelsea’s 10th signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez.

He has also become the third player to either leave or join Chelsea on Transfer Deadline Day, with Omari Kellyman completing a season-long loan move to League One side Cardiff City and Championship outfit Sheffield United purchasing Alex Matos on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

Buonanotte could make his competitive Chelsea debut during their Premier League clash against Brentford on 13 September after the upcoming international break.
