Arsenal receive dream injury update ahead of Champions League clash
Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost ahead of their first fixture of the 2025-26 Champions League campaign.
The Gunners reached the semi-final stage last year, before succumbing to a 3-1 aggregate defeat to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain, and they will be aiming to lift the trophy for the first time in their history this time around.
Mikel Arteta has been backed with €293.5 million worth of summer signings and the north London outfit head into the league phase as one of the favourites to win the famous Champions League trophy in May.
Arsenal will kick off their European campaign with an away trip to face Athletic Club on Tuesday evening, and summer signings Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke are among the stars in contention to make their Champions League debut in the process.
Bukayo Saka will miss the game after suffering a hamstring injury before the September international break, however William Saliba is in contention to feature as he has returned to first-team training after missing the win over Nottingham Forest.
Furthermore, Arsenal will not be forced to face Athletic Club talisman Nico Williams.
The 23-year-old, who was on Arsenal’s transfer wish-list before signing a new contract this summer, is Athletic Club’s most dangerous attacker, but it has been confirmed that he will not feature against the Gunners as he is struggling with a hip injury he picked up versus Alaves on Saturday.
Confirmed: Nico Williams won’t play vs Arsenal
Speaking ahead of Athletic Club’s clash against Arsenal, captain Inaki Williams confirmed that his brother will not feature on Tuesday evening.
“So many of us are looking forward to debuting in the Champions League,” Williams told reporters. “For years we've fought for a day like tomorrow and we want to grow our dream. We are not afraid of anyone, it will be a really nice game.
“I hope I can debut with a win, but it's a pity I can't do it with Nico,” he added.
