Brentford continue to block Yoane Wissa's proposed transfer to Newcastle, which also has a massive knock-on effect for Liverpool's pursuit of Alexander Isak.

Wissa is one of the key components of a potential late-window transfer domino. The Congo DR international is desperate to leave Brentford for Newcastle, feeling that this may be his final shot at playing Champions League football.

The 28-year-old has essentially done what Isak has done at Newcastle: he has gone AWOL in a bid to force through a move, which has left the Bees scrambling for replacements.

On paper, a successor has already arrived, with Dango Ouattara completing a club-record switch from Bournemouth on Saturday evening. However, Brentford continue to play hardball when it comes to Wissa's departure.

According to Ben Jacobs, the London club value Wissa at up to €70 million. Naturally, no club is willing to pay that for a 28-year-old with one year left on his contract.

Wissa saga turns ugly

There appeared to be a bit of a rapprochement between Wissa and Brentford a few weeks ago when his club ostensibly softened their not-for-sale stance, instead agreeing to let him go if a suitable replacement is found.

However, Brentford are still refusing to sanction his exit, which has now seen Wissa remove all mentions of the Premier League side from his social media channels. The attacker has also deleted his profile picture to signal his disappointment with the current state of affairs.

Adding to Wissa's frustration is the fact that Brentford supposedly agreed last year that he would be allowed to leave for just €30m in 2025. Brentford's antics are also causing consternation elsewhere.

Newcastle are in a similar situation with Isak and desperately need to bring in an attacker to replace the wantaway Swede. Wissa is their top target, and signing him could unblock Isak's move to Liverpool, who will also surely be hoping that Brentford finally cave.
