Brentford have confirmed the club-record signing of Dango Ouattara, with this deal potentially starting the domino that will see Alexander Isak end up at Liverpool.

The summer of strikers is not over just yet, even though most clubs have secured their new No.9. In fact, Liverpool appeared to have sorted their new centre-forward, too, when they signed Hugo Ekitike for €95 million.

The Frenchman has enjoyed a brilliant start to life at Anfield, scoring in the Community Shield and the Premier League opener against Bournemouth. However, the Reds still have their sights firmly set on Newcastle wantaway Alexander Isak.

This deal, which would presumably shatter the Premier League record, hinges on the Magpies securing a replacement for the Sweden international, which has not happened yet.

Eddie Howe hasn't closed the door on reintegrating Isak into the side should no move materialise, but the Newcastle fans made their feelings clear against Aston Villa on Saturday, chanting: "There's only one greedy b*stard."

Ouattara starts Isak domino

It now appears as though Isak's exit has moved one step closer as the first domino in this transfer saga has fallen. Newcastle need a striker and have earmarked Yoane Wissa as a top target, although he was initially seen as just a replacement for Callum Wilson.

Like Newcastle, Brentford have been reluctant to sanction the exit of their star attacker without first securing a successor, but Wissa's move to St. James' Park is now expected to accelerate.

That is because Brentford have officially announced the club-record signing of Bournemouth attacker Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth for €48.7 million. The Bees will now allow Wissa to pursue his move to Newcastle.

This could, in turn, soften the Magpies' stance on Isak, although it remains to be seen if it will be enough to get them to sell or if they want another body in as well.

Should Isak indeed end up at Liverpool, things will have come full circle, as this sequence of transfers would not have been possible without a Reds player: Ben Doak is replacing Ouattara at Bournemouth, and his agreement to join the Cherries was the catalyst for this domino.
