Despite making some promising signings, Manchester United are at risk of ending the summer transfer window in disappointing fashion.

In the age of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), selling well is just as important as buying well as far as Premier League clubs are concerned. Man Utd have certainly bought well, at least on paper.

To be sure, it can be argued that splashing over €150 million on just Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo isn't the shrewdest move when you have to rebuild your side on a limited budget. But there is no doubt that they make Man Utd a better team.

Where the Red Devils have really come unstuck, however, is on the outgoing front. Deadline Day is just a few weeks away, and Man Utd have yet to raise a single penny from senior sales.

Marcus Rashford has freed up a fortune in wages with his loan to Barcelona, but Man Utd failed to offload him permanently as was initially planned. They are now at risk of also failing to sell Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Man Utd are bad sellers

According to Sky Sports, it 'can't be ruled out' that Sancho is loaned out again. Borussia Dortmund are pushing for a deal, and Man Utd want to sell, but it remains to be seen if a permanent move is feasible.

The same outlet also reports that Man Utd may have to settle for another loan for Antony, too. The Brazilian has his heart set on a return to Real Betis, but the Spanish outfit are being deliberately slow to make the Red Devils more desperate.

Man Utd have historically been quite poor at selling players, but the difference between the Old Trafford club and their Premier League rivals is particularly stark this summer, despite INEOS' supposed 'best-in-class' recruitment department.

There is a night and day difference between Man Utd and the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool. Both clubs have splashed lavish fees on new recruits this summer, but they are actually bringing in big sums, too - and they are successful on the pitch.

Only Bayer Leverkusen (€205.5m) have raised more from sales than Chelsea (€151.6m) and Liverpool (€133.3m) so far this window, and these numbers are only going to increase.

A flurry of Blues players are on the way out, with Armando Broja, Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and more set to leave the club on permanent deals.

Similarly, Liverpool are in talks to sell Tyler Morton to Lyon and Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal, with the latter likely to fetch around €70m. Harvey Elliott could also yet depart Anfield for a fee in excess of €40m before the window shuts.

The only player who will raise Man Utd a substantial amount this summer will be Alejandro Garnacho, but even he is expected to be significantly cheaper than initially anticipated. His original €80m price tag has reportedly dropped down to €50m-€60m.

Chelsea and Liverpool are putting on a clinic in how to do business. Man Utd - not so much.
