Man Utd Transfer News Today: Romano reveals next SIGNING, €80m deal BLOCKED, Mourinho’s RETURN?
All the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip from Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United try to finish the window on a high.
Next Man Utd signing revealed
Although there’s little over a week left in the transfer window, Man Utd are still hoping to get at least one more deal over the line.
The Red Devils are ideally looking for a central midfielder, a goalkeeper and potentially a striker.
Romano has revealed which area Amorim has zeroed in on – and the identity of the likely signing.
He revealed: “Understand Manchester United are still working on deal to sign Senne Lammens, talks underway.
“Personal terms are almost agreed and Man United are in active talks for the Belgian goalkeeper.
“Man Utd try to anticipate more clubs from France and Italy, also based on exits.”
The Daily Mail reports that Andre Onana is likely to remain at the club, suggesting that Altay Bayindir could be the player sacrificed should Antwerp star Lammens make the move.
Flick blocks Man Utd’s Firmin move
United were frustrated in their attempts to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton as they tried to strengthen their midfield, but it has now been revealed that they also chased Barcelona star Fermin Lopes.
Sport reports that United were close to signing the Blaugrana star for €80 million in a deal that would have solved the Camp Nou side’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues.
Head coach Hansi Flick put a stop to it, telling the club he was happy not to make any more signings if it meant keeping Fermin.
Marcus Rashford, on loan from Man Utd, discovered the extent of Barca’s financial issues as he was only registered at the last minute before the opening La Liga match of the season against Mallorca last weekend.
Antony wants Real Betis move
Real Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Antony wants to head back to the Seville club after a successful loan stint last season.
The deal is complicated by financial problems, with United eager for a permanent sale. Betis can only realistically fund a loan.
Nevertheless, Pellegrini has gone public with the winger’s desire to head back to Spain.
"We all know he was very happy during the six-month period he was with us,” the former Manchester City boss said before his side beat Alaves 1-0 on Friday.
"We want him back. He certainly wants to come back, but it depends on what the transfer holder, which is Man Utd, wants to do with him.”
Amorim’s message to Bomb Squad
Ruben Amorim has reiterated that he is open to welcoming players in his ‘Bomb Squad’ back into the fold if they are not sold.
United want to offload Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia before the end of the window, but Amorim appreciates that might not be possible and is willing to take a pragmatic stance towards the quartet.
“Again I know that it’s not a good thing to have players in this situation but it’s clear they want to play at a different club, that’s clear,” Amorim told reporters ahead of Man Utd’s clash against Fulham on Saturday.
“We try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy. I try to have the training with the guys that I think are going to be the future, the other guys are training and preparing for the next chapter.
“When the window closes, it’s a different history,” the Red Devils boss admitted. “When the window closes, we have to receive the players. Then a new life and anything can happen.”
Sky Sports reports that Sancho is confident he will complete a move to Roma, while Garnacho is closely linked with Chelsea.
Mourinho to make Premier League return?
Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is being tipped to make a return to the Premier League within days.
Mourinho is a candidate to become the next Nottingham Forest manager, according to The Sun.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s place at the City Ground is suddenly under threat due to a clash with owner Evangelos Marinakis over transfer policy.
On Friday, the Portuguese admitted the relationship between the two is not good.
“Our relations have changed,” he admitted. “It’s not good. I think everybody at the club should be together but it’s not the reality. The reality is that it is not what it used to be. It was a good, respectful relationship, but was more based on trust and sharing opinions, and now it’s not so good.”
As well as Mourinho, another ex-Tottenham boss in the form of Ange Postecoglou is tipped for the role.
