Man Utd star pushing for transfer as manager CONFIRMS: 'He wants to come'
Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Manchester United winger Antony is desperate to return to the club.
The Brazilian winger is currently in transfer limbo after being included in Man Utd's 'Bomb Squad' of unwanted players. Antony spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis and managed to revive his career, but his days at Old Trafford are numbered.
The Seville club have been in talks with Man Utd all summer in a bid to bring the 25-year-old back. However, these discussions have yet to lead to a breakthrough, and some have claimed that this is by design.
Betis are taking their time on purpose because they know that Man Utd will become increasingly desperate to get rid of Antony. That said, it is important to note that even a relatively cheap deal for the attacker would be a major financial commitment for the LaLiga side.
Indeed, there are growing doubts about whether Betis can afford to sign Antony, and it appears that the club are gunning for another loan or a heavily incentivised permanent deal. However, Man Utd want to see cold, hard cash immediately as they want to make more signings.
Betis boss confirms Antony desire
All summer, various high-ranking figures at Betis have spoken about Antony, perhaps with a view to increasing the pressure on Man Utd. It has been widely confirmed that the winger has his heart set on a return to Andalusia, but it remains up in the air if he will get his wish.
Now, Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has also addressed the situation, and he, too, has corroborated that Antony is desperate to return to the Estadio Villamarin.
“I haven’t spoken to Antony,” Pellegrini said ahead of Betis' clash with Alaves on Friday evening. "We all know he was very happy during the six-month period he was with us.
"We want him back. He certainly wants to come back, but it depends on what the transfer holder, which is Man Utd, wants to do with him.” Talks between Betis and Man Utd continue, but the clock is ticking, with just over a week remaining in the window.
