Man Utd goalkeeper search: Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS official offer
West Ham have submitted a formal offer for Botafogo goalkeeper and long-standing Manchester United target John Victor, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils are at risk of missing out on a player who has plenty of admirers at Old Trafford. Botafogo shot-stopper John Victor has been associated with a potential move to Man Utd for months, but nothing has so far come of it.
At this point, it is no secret that Man Utd are exploring the goalkeeper market due to Andre Onana's disappointing performances. However, the Premier League giants remain undecided on the kind of profile they want.
For now, the club are focusing all of their efforts on signing a new striker for Ruben Amorim, with Benjamin Sesko the favoured option. Adding the Slovenian will cost in excess of €75 million, so they couldn't move for a goalkeeper even if they wanted to, due to uncertainty over their budget.
The search for a new shot-stopper has been a slow burn so far, and this could now see Man Utd lose Victor to West Ham.
West Ham make Victor offer
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers have now made the first move for the Botafogo star by submitting a formal €8m bid. The Italian also confirms that Man Utd have been monitoring Victor 'in the recent months.'
This news is interesting because Victor is thought to have an $8 million (€6.9m) release clause, which suggests that West Ham are ready to pay over the odds to land him. Romano adds that Galatasaray and Everton are also concretely interested in Victor.
As for Man Utd, this news is unlikely to change much in their search for a goalkeeper as they have yet to decide if they want youth or experience. Senne Lammens has been contacted as a potential understudy and eventual usurper of Onana.
Meanwhile, there have also been talks with Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma, both of whom would be immediate upgrades on the Cameroon international.
