Newcastle reject official Liverpool bid for Alexander Isak - Ornstein
Newcastle United have rejected an official offer from Liverpool for Alexander Isak, according to David Ornstein.
The Sweden international has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a blockbuster move to Anfield, however Eddie Howe’s side have reportedly knocked back Liverpool’s opening offer.
That is according to Ornstein, who claims that Liverpool’s initial approach for Isak was “informal”, although they have now seen an official bid rebuffed by Newcastle.
The Reds have already completed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike for €95 million so far this summer, but they are eager to add Isak to Arne Slot’s side and they have communicated their desire to complete a deal in the region of €138.4m (£120m), as per Ornstein.
However, they have now failed with an official bid and will be forced to increase their offer if they are to succeed in their pursuit of the Sweden superstar.
Isak has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool, according to multiple reports, while he has travelled to former club Real Sociedad in order to train away from the senior Newcastle squad.
Newcastle have attempted to tie Isak down to a new long-term contract, but the Sweden star has no intention of signing fresh terms, with his current deal due to expire in 2028.
The Magpies have even called upon several senior players to encourage Isak to discuss a new contract, however the 25-year-old isn't willing to enter into negotiations with the club.
Will Alexander Isak join Liverpool?
Isak scored 27 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances across all competitions last season, with Mohamed Salah the only player to tally more than his 23 Premier League strikes.
Liverpool view Isak as a dream transfer target and they are prepared to make him the most expensive player in Premier League history.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are interested in signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko if Isak departs St James’ Park this summer, with Brentford forward Yoane Wissa also on the Magpies’ radar.
