Enzo Maresca reportedly believes Nicolas Jackson will continue to play a “big role” at Chelsea, despite heavy rumours of a summer exit.

The 24-year-old has seemingly fallen behind both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this summer, and Chelsea will consider a sale if they receive a suitable offer.

FootballTransfers understands that Jackson is valued at €80 million by the west London giants, and The Athletic’s David Ornstein has confirmed that he is “increasingly likely” to leave the club on a permanent deal before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.

The Senegal international still has eight years remaining on his current contract at Chelsea, but talk of an exit has ramped up in recent weeks and he seems destined to leave the club as they look to raise funds for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

However, Maresca reportedly wants to keep Jackson at the club, despite Chelsea’s desire to sell him if an acceptable bid is lodged.

That is according to The Sun reporter Rahman Osman, who posted on X: “Love the way Enzo Maresca is backing Nicolas Jackson behind the scenes - absolutely loves him and thinks he's going to have a big role at the club. Good managers always back their players at tough times.”

Chelsea to sell Nicolas Jackson?

Maresca repeatedly praised Jackson throughout the course of last season, but the Senegal international received two red cards during his final five appearances of the campaign and his lack of involvement at the Club World Cup suggests that he is no longer first-choice.

The 24-year-old started Chelsea’s opening match of the tournament, however he was dropped to the substitutes bench for their second fixture and he received a red card just four minutes after replacing the aforementioned Delap.

After missing the next two fixtures through suspension, Jackson was an unused substitute in the quarter-final victory over Palmeiras, he played just four minutes in the semi-final and he was once again left on the bench in the victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

As a result, it seems as though Maresca rates both Pedro and Delap higher than Jackson, despite The Sun’s report.
