CONFIRMED: Eberechi Eze signs for Arsenal
Eberechi Eze is already an Arsenal player, Fabrizio Romano reports, with the Crystal Palace attacker said to have signed all the paperwork to make his dream move happen.
FootballTransfers reported that the framework was in place for Eze to move to Arsenal weeks ago, but Mikel Arteta’s side cooled on the deal.
Tottenham Hotspur appeared primed to take advantage by signing the 27-year-old but an injury to Kai Havertz forced the Gunners into a U-turn. The Emirates club has moved swiftly to complete the move within a matter of days.
Romano has now confirmed the deal is done.
“All documents have been signed for Eberechi Eze to be considered as new Arsenal player,” Romano has tweeted.
“Deal sealed on player and club side with Crystal Palace.
“Done and completed.”
Eze is expected to cost Arsenal a total of €90 million (£65m), with €69m of this coming as an up-front payment and the remainder tied to bonuses.
His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €54m, but the Gunners’ need for another attacker has forced them to pay over the odds.
Eze an X-factor for Arsenal
Club legend Paul Merson has tipped Eze as the figure who can finally end the 22-year Premier League title drought for the Gunners.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I think Arsenal win the league with Eze. They had a chance without him because it's a real heads or tails season with Liverpool, and Man City played well on the opening weekend, but Eze help get them over the line.
“He is a brilliant signing for Arsenal. It's a game-changer and a perfect fit.
“If Arsenal had let Spurs get him, I'd have had to question what the club was doing because he's a quality player.
“Arsenal struggle when teams come to the Emirates and put everyone behind the ball. Teams want to limit the space Arsenal have to play in and they have struggled to break teams down with those tactics.
“For me, that's where Eze comes in at Arsenal. He's got the X-factor and in tight, tight games, he has the ability to break a low block down.”
