Arsenal signing triggers CLUB-RECORD transfer
Crystal Palace are ready to shatter their transfer record on Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino after selling Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.
The Eagles are poised for an explosive end to what has otherwise been a pretty low-key summer window, at least in terms of incomings. So far, Crystal Palace have only signed free-agent goalkeeper Walter Benitez and left-back Borna Sosa.
This has understandably frustrated head coach Oliver Glasner, who had been hoping for big-name reinforcements to help his side kick on after winning two trophies in a matter of months.
No marquee arrival has as yet materialised, and to make matters worse, Palace have just lost their most talented player in Eberechi Eze, who has completed a €69 million move to Arsenal. There is still a very real possibility that captain Marc Guehi joins Liverpool as well.
Fortunately, it does look as though Palace fans will have something to cheer about before the deadline on 1 September. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Selhurst Park club are now close to obliterating their transfer record.
Palace close in on Pino signing
The transfer insider reports that Palace are in 'advanced talks' to sign Villarreal attacker Yeremy Pino and that there is an eagerness to get this deal over the line 'as soon as possible.'
The transfer fee for the 22-year-old is expected to be around €50m, which would see him become the club's most expensive signing ever. The current record is still held by Christian Benteke, who joined from Liverpool for €31.2m in 2016.
Pino was widely regarded as one of Europe's most exciting talents in the early 2020s, but an ACL injury halted his development. He returned to full fitness last term, notching a solid but unspectacular four goals and 10 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Primarily a right-winger, Pino is also capable of playing on the left. The Spaniard will either be a direct replacement for Ezer on the left or be used on the right, with the always-reliable Ismaila Sarr moving to the other flank.
