Manchester United and Liverpool are still in the mix for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, despite the recent lack of movement surrounding the Frenchman.

The 23-year-old has been widely expected to leave the Bundesliga for the Premier League this summer. Ekitike enjoyed a breakout season last term, and Frankfurt accepted before the campaign even ended that they would likely have to sell him.

A host of clubs have expressed an interest in Ekitike, but there have been no truly concrete developments so far regarding a transfer. The reason for this is quite simple: Frankfurt have slapped a €100 million price tag on the Frenchman.

There is no denying that Ekitike is a brilliant player with a lot of potential still, but he is no €100m player, and his suitors know that. Chelsea have already left the race for him as Frankfurt are refusing to budge from their valuation.

According to Sky Germany, Frankfurt's stubbornness stems from the fact that they don't really want to sell Ekitike. Despite resigning themselves to losing him, they won't let him go easily. After all, they qualified for the Champions League and need all the firepower they can get.

Frankfurt expect Ekitike offers

Ekitike has a long-term contract with the Bundesliga side, who have made a habit of selling players for huge profits in recent windows, so they are not desperate to cash in on the striker.

Still, reports in Germany suggest that the 23-year-old's future is far from decided at this point. It is possible that he stays at Frankfurt, but there may be movement yet before the window closes.

Indeed, it is claimed that Frankfurt 'expect' offers to materialise for the forward in the coming days and weeks. Newcastle recently reignited their interest in Ekitike, and Man Utd are 'still there' for him, despite his price and their financial situation.

Liverpool, too, remain a 'concrete option' for Ekitike. However, the Reds have still not completed the sale of Darwin Nunez, so they are not yet in a position to start negotiations for the Frenchman.
