The Red Devils are eager to bolster their options in midfield this summer, following the departure of Christian Eriksen on a Bosman deal, and they have reportedly identified Tchouameni as a key target.

The France international has been a reliable performer for Los Blancos since his arrival from AS Monaco in 2022, however he has constantly been linked with an exit over the past few months, amid continued interest from the Premier League, and a departure could potentially be on the cards this summer.

Real Madrid are eager to retain Tchoaumeni as they gear up for their first campaign under Xabi Alonso, however Man Utd are set to test their resolve with a bid worth €90m, as per Spanish outlet Defensa Central.

The Red Devils currently boast Manuel Ugarte, Toby Collyer, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes as options in central midfield, but it has been identified as a problem position by Amorim, and Tchouameni is reportedly seen as a player capable of firing Man Utd back towards the top of the Premier League table.

In fact, he may even be good enough to save Amorim’s job.

Why Aurelien Tchoaumeni is perfect for Man Utd

Ugarte showed moments of promise during his first season at Man Utd, but he certainly wasn’t the instant success that INEOS had hoped, while Kobbie Mainoo struggled to work his way into Amorim’s preferred starting XI.

Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, is arguably more effective in an advanced No.10 role, and although Casemiro enjoyed a slight renaissance during the second-half of last season, he can still be a liability when defending transitions.

As a result, signing a new central midfielder could have a drastic impact on Man Utd’s fortunes next season and, in turn, Amorim’s future in the dugout.

Atalanta star Ederson had been identified as a top target by the Red Devils, but a deal appears unlikely as things stand, and Man Utd have now reportedly turned their attention to Tchouameni.

Data analytics experts SciSports believe Tchouameni would be an excellent fit at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils ranking as his second-best transfer option, behind Atletico Madrid, in regards to ‘club fit.’

He would also immediately become a key player under Amorim and his all-round ability would help Man Utd control games far better than they managed during the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils ended last season down in 14th place in the Premier League table and Amorim’s job will undoubtedly be at risk if they endure a slow start to the new campaign.

Signing Tchouameni, even for the lofty fee of €90m, could therefore be a gamechanger at Old Trafford and it represents the kind of business Man Utd should be targeting this summer if their finances allow it.
