Man Utd SLAMMED as Alejandro Garnacho edges towards €52m move
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has aimed a shock dig at Manchester United and confirmed that his side remain interested in signing Alejandro Garnacho this summer.
The Argentina international was close to joining Napoli during the January transfer window, amid their pursuit of a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia replacement, but the deal collapsed and Garnacho was forced to extend his stay at Old Trafford.
However, the 20-year-old is now expected to leave Man Utd ahead of the 2025-26 campaign following a public bust-up with Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final.
The Red Devils are determined to offload Garnacho this summer, while the former Atletico Madrid youth product is also eager to leave the club in order to pursue a new opportunity.
Rumours of a move to Chelsea have died down following the Blues’ purchase of Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, but Napoli have now rekindled their interest in Garnacho as they look to bring a new winger to the club before the new season kicks off.
Napoli to sign Alejandro Garnacho?
The Mirror claim that Napoli are eager to finalise a deal for roughly €52 million (£45m), and De Laurentiis has issued a bombshell update regarding the Serie A side’s pursuit of Garnacho.
“Garnacho's got pace, flair and potential,” he told reporters (via The Mirror). “But that's not even why we want him. We want him because he's at United. Get him out and he becomes twice the player. There's a fault at United that I can't explain.”
Man Utd finished last season in a lowly 14th place in the Premier League table, while they haven’t won the English top flight title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge back in 2012-13.
During that time, the likes of Scott McTominay, Anthony Elanga, Dean Henderson, and even Antony - on loan at Real Betis - have all fared well after leaving Old Trafford, and Napoli believe Garnacho could be the next in line.
