Antony STUCK at Man Utd? Transfer in danger as Plan B explored
Real Betis are exploring a deal for Bayern Munich winger Bryan Zaragoza due to a lack of progress in the talks with Manchester United over Antony.
The Seville club have been in talks with Man Utd for weeks in a bid to find a way to prolong Antony's stay. There have been discussions over different formulas, ranging from an initial loan with an obligation to buy to co-ownership of the Brazilian.
However, despite optimism at Real Betis that an agreement can be reached, a deal appears no closer than when negotiations started. Antony is keen to return to the LaLiga side after his successful six-month loan, but the finances of the deal are proving prohibitive.
Betis can't break the bank on the 25-year-old, while Man Utd naturally want to receive a significant fee considering that they shelled out an eye-watering €95 million for him in 2022.
Discussions continue, and Betis maintain their confidence that Antony is prioritising a move back to the Estadio Villamarin, but the Conference League finalists are now exploring alternative options.
Betis eye Zaragoza deal
According to AS, one of the names now being considered is Bryan Zaragoza, who has been told that he has no future at Bayern Munich. The Spain international joined the Bundesliga giants in January 2024, but has been a huge disappointment.
Zaragoza failed to settle after his move and was sent on loan to Osasuna last summer. The 23-year-old showed early signs of promise in Pamplona, but two nasty injuries ultimately disrupted his campaign.
Osasuna have been in talks with Bayern to make his move permanent, but the winger is reportedly stalling on giving the final green light as he wants to be closer to his native Malaga in the South of Spain.
A potential move to Seville appeals to him, but Betis' priority is still Antony for now. Given the finances involved, it would be a case of one or the other for the Verdiblancos.
The future of current Betis winger Ez Abde also needs to be resolved. The LaLiga side are not opposed to selling, but they will only entertain large offers as Barcelona would be due 20 per cent of his fee.
The situation is quite complicated for Betis, which means that a move for Antony is anything but a certainty at present.
