Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the ongoing sagas surrounding Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool and the battle between Newcastle and Manchester United for Benjamin Sesko.

Newcastle have been in talks with Sesko but Manchester United have also been in contact and have made the 22-year-old their priority target up front after reports that he was willing to choose them over a move to Tyneside.

But, speaking on YouTube, Romano said Sesko would take a number of days to make his decision over which club to join, with United also trying to make the deal possible by offering some players in exchange.

Romano said: “Manchester United are trying to understand how they can really make the deal happen. While Newcastle are ready to go and close the deal any moment if the player calls and says ‘okay I'm coming’, at the same time Manchester United are trying to find a solution.

“United are working on the opportunity to include some players, for example one of the dream targets for Leipzig would be Rasmus Hojlund but at the moment, from player side, he would love to stay Manchester United. The player is not entertaining any negotiation with other clubs at this stage. So I don't think it's going to be easy to include a player in this deal.

“Then we have to see what Sesko decides to do and it's not going to be today and, from what I heard, it's not going to be also tomorrow. It's going to take some days before Sesko says, ‘okay, this is the project I want. I've decided not too many days.’ I don't expect a very long saga, but in the next days he will meet his family and his agent.”

Isak personal terms ‘not an issue’

Speculation intensified on Wednesday with reports that Isak had reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool but Romano insisted that personal terms have never been the issue in the deal.

Romano said: “How can you think that Isak doesn't go to training, doesn't go to preseason tour with Newcastle, without having a contract trading with Liverpool?

“It's quite obvious that the contract is not a problem, it’s not an issue. It's absolutely obvious a player is never going to create a problem with his current club if he doesn't have already an agreement ready on the other side. So personal terms are never going to be a problem.

“It's on Newcastle. If and when Newcastle open doors to an exit, Liverpool are ready to make a record bid. Liverpool are ready to go for it but they’re waiting for Newcastle to call and say ‘okay, now it's time to do it.”
