Crystal Palace have enquired about Chelsea wonderkid Josh Acheampong, according to a report.

The 19-year-old has made 14 senior appearances for the Blues to date, with head coach Enzo Maresca unabashedly fond of the teenage defender. "My plan with Josh is quite clear," the Italian insisted last month. "I said many times that I really like Josh.

“I think he potentially can be a top defender for this club. It’s on him to have the right timing to do things. We are full of young players here, full of talented players, even defenders. So I think the best plan for Josh is to be with us, and I’m very happy if he’s going to be with us.”

However, Maresca also admitted that Acheampong has suitors, and Crystal Palace are now the latest club to have expressed an interest in the youngster, according to The Telegraph.

The Eagles and Chelsea maintain a fruitful relationship that has seen several Blues stars have successful loan stints at Selhurst Park, and any move for Acheampong would also be merely temporary.

Crystal Palace want Acheampong

Palace are said to have enquired about Acheampong regarding a potential deal, but Chelsea have yet to make a firm decision on his future as they are still competing in the Club World Cup.

Acheampong started against ES Tunis in the final group stage game, but that has so far been his only outing at the tournament in the US. He recently made it clear that he is keen to stay at Chelsea, but the club are weighing up whether a loan would be better for his development.

"I don't really look at it or think of my future," Acheampong said. "I just focus on my football. Enzo said he thinks I'm a good player. I love the club, so I always want to stay at Chelsea and just show what I can do."

Chelsea will have the final say on the matter and may view a loan to Palace as the perfect next step for him. The FA Cup winners will - potentially - play in Europe next term and have a history of helping Blues stars develop.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah and Ben Chilwell have all enjoyed good loan spells with the Eagles in recent years.
