Chelsea's Bomb Squad explained: Who's in it and where will they be transferred?
Chelsea have formed a ‘Bomb Squad’ for the second consecutive year as their immense spending under the BlueCo consortium continues to break records.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have spent over €1.5 billion on new signings since 2022 and they have introduced a revolutionary transfer strategy that has divided opinion amongst fans and pundits alike.
Chelsea have signed 48 players since the arrival of Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly, while they have sold 29 players for a transfer fee during the same time period.
The youngsters signed by Chelsea either become key players at the club or they are quickly moved on, hopefully for a profit.
This strategy helped the Blues win the 2025 Club World Cup, although the major downside is that Chelsea often have a stockpile of unwanted players at the club. This summer is no different.
Who is in Chelsea’s Bomb Squad?
Chelsea’s ‘Bomb Squad’ features several of the same players as last year, with Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka among the stars who are included for the second consecutive summer.
Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling are the two biggest names on Chelsea’s transfer list this year, while defensive duo Renato Veiga and Axel Disasi have also been deemed surplus to requirements.
Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana are both still on Chelsea’s books, and need to be sold this summer, while Lesley Ugochukwu and Alfie Gilchrist are expected to leave Stamford Bridge too.
Although Christopher Nkunku played a surprisingly key role during Chelsea’s Club World Cup triumph, he is also a member of the ‘Bomb Squad’ and the Blues are desperate to offload him.
Bayern Munich are among the teams interested in signing the Frenchman, although they are yet to agree a fee with Chelsea.

Trevoh Chalobah, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Nicolas Jackson are among those who may be moved on if suitable offers are submitted, while Chelsea are determined to send youngsters Aaron Anselmino and Marc Guiu out on loan.
In addition, Mamadou Sarr, Kendry Paez, Mike Penders and Ishe Samuels-Smith have all been tipped to join Strasbourg, either on loan or permanently.
Chelsea have already sanctioned the departures of Noni Madueke, Djordje Petrovic, Mathis Amougou, Bashir Humphreys, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli so far this summer.
Meanwhile, they have completed the signings of Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez for a combined fee of €243.8m.
