Arsenal plan 'DECISIVE attack' to unlock Gyokeres saga
Arsenal are plotting a 'decisive attack' to finally seal a deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to Portuguese media.
The Sweden international remains in limbo over his future amid his ongoing dispute with Sporting. Gyokeres' camp has accused the club of reneging on an agreement to let him leave for €70 million this summer, while the Lisbon outfit deny that such a pact ever existed.
After 97 goals and 28 assists across two seasons in Portugal, Sporting feel that Gyokeres is worth more than €70m, although they accept that they can't demand his €100m release clause be triggered.
It is thought that Sporting would agree to sell for a fee in the region of €80m, but the situation remains gridlocked. Gyokeres has vowed never to play for the Lisbon club again, and this reportedly includes training as well.
However, as things stand, the 27-year-old is scheduled to start pre-season with Sporting on Monday, after already being given extra time off to sort out his future. Gyokeres may not turn up, but O Jogo points out that he still has a contract until 2028, so a no-show could have consequences.
Arsenal prepare Gyokeres 'attack'
The Portuguese outlet adds that Arsenal could yet attempt a 'decisive attack' to finally unlock the situation, perhaps even before he is due to report for pre-season.
It has recently been posited that the Gunners could look to offer around €70m plus €10m in realistic bonuses to get Sporting to cave, but no such offer has so far materialised, with the North London giants reportedly hesitant to go as high as €80m.
Gyokeres is desperate for Arsenal to agree a deal, but the Gunners will have to be mindful of Premier League spending rules despite their healthy financial situation.
Due to his age, Gyokeres has little to no resale value, and given that Arsenal are planning to potentially spend north of €200m this summer, they are keen not to overpay for targets.
