Alexander Isak transfer gets GREEN LIGHT: Newcastle exit one step away
Alexander Isak is on track to leave Newcastle United this summer, with the St James’ Park side having given the green light for the Sweden star to begin contract talks over a move away.
Liverpool have held a strong interest in Isak and are willing to break the Premier League transfer record in order to sign the 25-year-old former Real Sociedad star.
Newcastle have resisted offers from the Anfield club, but have opened the door for Isak to complete a sensational move to the Saudi Pro League.
Despite finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, the Magpies’ owners are in the process of selling their most valuable player, according to FootMercato. The source states that Isak has been allowed to begin contract talks with Al-Hilal over a move to the Middle East. Discussions are already said to be ongoing between the player and his agents.
Should Isak reach an agreement over personal terms, a deal will surely be a formality because Newcastle’s owners will effectively be negotiating with themselves over a transfer fee. Both the Magpies and Al-Hilal are owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).
There is no indication of what sort of money the Premier League side would receive for the striker, whose Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €116m. He is the ninth most valuable player in the world.
Saudi Arabia has started to show its teeth in the transfer market this summer, with a €350m bid for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior also rumoured.
Newcastle’s trust in Saudi owners shattered?
Such a deal would be highly controversial. Newcastle fans have been extremely supportive of their Saudi owners in the past, particularly as they were knocking back bids from Liverpool in order to retain Isak.
It would likely be seen as a major kick in the teeth for the Geordies if this were simply to sell the striker to one of PIF’s Pro League teams. A degree of trust in the ownership would, no doubt, be lost.
On the other hand, this would guarantee enormous transfer income for Newcastle and could give them the freedom to make some exciting signings in the closing weeks of the transfer window.
Previously, all updates had indicated that Newcastle would do everything to keep Isak this summer.
