Man Utd identify 'dark horse' striker target

Manchester United have reportedly identified Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins as a “dark horse” transfer target amid their pursuit of a new striker.
The England international has three years remaining on his current contract with Unai Emery’s side, but a summer exit remains on the cards amid reported interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
Arsenal have identified Watkins as an alternative option to top targets Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, while FootballTransfers understands that Chelsea are keeping tabs on his situation as they consider signing another new centre forward this summer.
We have also been informed that Man Utd are interested in Watkins, and Spanish outlet Fichajes have revealed that he has been identified as a “dark horse” target by Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils are eager to sign either Victor Osimhen, Moise Kean or the aforementioned Gyokeres, however Watkins has been earmarked as a possible alternative option as the club look to sign a number of Premier League-proven stars.
Matheus Cunha has already arrived at Old Trafford from Wolverhampton Wanderers, while they are pushing to finalise a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo amid significant competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
Watkins scored 16 goals and provided eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances last season, and Man Utd view him as a player capable of guiding them back into European football.

Will Aston Villa sell Ollie Watkins this summer?
Villa are in a precarious financial position and they will likely be forced to sell at least one key player this summer in order to balance the books.
In addition to Watkins, Emiliano Martinez has also been heavily linked with a move to Man Utd and the Argentina international is reportedly eager to secure a lucrative contract with the Old Trafford outfit.
Meanwhile, Morgan Rogers is being monitored by a number of top clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, following a fantastic 2024-25 campaign.
