Man Utd make Kobbie Mainoo decision as Chelsea chase summer deal

Kobbie Mainoo will “almost certainly” remain at Manchester United next season if Bruno Fernandes accepts a lucrative contract proposal from Saudi Arabia.
The England midfielder has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford departure amid the club’s need to raise funds through player sales, and Chelsea are monitoring his situation closely.
Enzo Maresca’s side were eager to finalise a deal for Mainoo during the January transfer window and they have rekindled their interest, despite the imminent arrival of Dario Essugo from Sporting CP and Andrey Santos’ return from a fruitful loan spell at Strasbourg.
However, despite their interest in Mainoo, iNews have revealed that Chelsea are unlikely to sign the Man Utd star as he will “almost certainly” stay at Old Trafford if Fernandes departs for the Saudi Pro League.
Ruben Amorim “is not completely convinced” by the 20-year-old, but INEOS are reportedly aware that selling both Mainoo and Fernandes could lead to immense fan unrest.
Bruno Fernandes to leave Man Utd?
Fernandes has been offered a three-year contract worth €240 million by Al-Hilal, as per reports, and his representatives are locked in negotiations with the Saudi Pro League outfit as they eye a potential summer deal.
Al-Hilal are even reportedly willing to pay a €120m transfer fee in order to sign Fernandes this summer, although Amorim recently admitted that he wants to keep the Portugal international at Old Trafford.

“You can see by the performance, the leadership, the passion he [Fernandes] has for the games. So it is really important, especially in these kinds of moments,” Amorim told reporters on Man Utd’s post-season tour of Asia.
“You could see that in the last game [versus Aston Villa]. I felt that the team was without pressure; they performed quite well and everybody wanted the ball.
“The team has different moments and in different moments, Bruno is the one who really wants to take responsibility.
“He should be because he is the captain, so he's really important for us and really important for what we want to build with this team.”
