Man Utd cash in on Frimpong’s Liverpool move: €47.5m heading to Old Trafford

Manchester United are set to benefit from Jeremie Frimpong’s transfer to Liverpool earlier this month.
Former Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is set to revisit his old club in order to make his first signing since becoming Bayer Leverkusen boss, according to a report from Germany.
Ten Hag will know as well as anyone the necessity for Man Utd to make sales this summer, with some surprising names having been put on the market.
One of the players set for the Old Trafford exit is Alejandro Garnacho, and according to Kicker, the former Ajax boss sees the Argentine as a potential replacement for Frimpong. It is claimed that the Bundesliga club have already sounded out the possibility of a deal.
Ten Hag targets Garnacho to replace Frimpong
Leverkusen sold Frimpong to Liverpool for the full value of the player’s €40 million release clause, with the Netherlands star replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield.
Given Frimpong’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €54.5m, the Bundesliga side could feel shortchanged by the move and may be forced to look at potential transfer bargains of their own.
The Guardian reports that Garnacho may just fall into this category. Man Utd have reduced their asking price for the former Atletico Madrid youth to €47.5m (£40m), whereas the player’s ETV is €60m.
United, though, are eager to make sales to unlock their transfer window. Signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP remains a possibility but only if they can raise the cash to meet the Portuguese club’s asking price of around €70m. Selling Garnacho would help to do this.
The Argentine has made himself undesirable around Old Trafford after an outburst from his brother on social media, which claimed that Amorim had ‘thrown him under a bus’.
As such, Garnacho is on the market and Ten Hag could benefit.
