EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal face key Sesko decision that could unlock Rodrygo signing

Arsenal are preparing for crucial internal discussions this week that will shape their summer transfer business, with two high-profile targets - Benjamin Sesko and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo - at the centre of the conversation.
Sources close to the club have revealed to FootballTransfers that Mikel Arteta is convinced about signing Rodrygo, the Brazilian winger, and is eager to bring him to the Emirates.
However, Arsenal’s pursuit of the 24-year-old is heavily dependent on how they structure their ongoing negotiations with RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesko, whose €80 million release clause presents a significant financial challenge.
The Gunners are actively trying to work out a deal with Leipzig that would allow them to manage the budget required to complete both transfers. The coming week will see Arsenal’s hierarchy weigh up the possibilities, looking for a way to secure Sesko’s signature while leaving room to pursue Rodrygo.
Major contract decisions
In addition to the transfer discussions, Arsenal will also hold talks on contract extensions for current players - a key part of the club’s strategy to maintain squad stability amid this transfer activity. One name expected to feature in these talks is Leandro Trossard, who could be on his way out if Rodrygo arrives, given the Brazilian’s expected role on the wing.
Meanwhile, Arsenal remain heavily involved in their striker hunt. Talks continue with both Viktor Gyokeres and Sesko, but the latter has gained the upper hand after the Sporting CP hitman expressed reservations about coming to the Emirates and playing a rotational role alongside Kai Havertz.
Sesko’s willingness to compete for the main striking spot has impressed Arsenal’s hierarchy and fits better with their long-term plans, but Arsenal’s ability to wrap up his signing may directly impact their chances of landing Rodrygo.
As Arsenal prepare for this pivotal week of talks, the club’s transfer window remains a balancing act - juggling marquee signings, contract renewals, and squad departures in an effort to build a competitive squad for next season’s Premier League and European campaigns.
