Chelsea have opened talks to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers following their failed attempt to secure a Deadline Day move for Jamie Gittens. The Blues had several approaches rejected by Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

It is claimed that Aston Villa have slapped a whopping €100 million asking price on Rogers. The Birmingham club are in a worrying financial situation and will likely have to sell after missing out on Champions League qualification.

Rogers is coming off a hugely impressive season in the Premier League and also has other suitors, among them Arsenal.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has explained why no move for Jamie Gittens materialised on Tuesday, stating that there was a significant gap in valuation.

"We had a phone call and spoke about expectations and requirements. Ultimately, we couldn't reach an agreement because we had different views on the current value of the player. But they were very respectful discussions, we have a good relationship with Chelsea," Kehl said.

The recruitment chief did not close the door on future talks with Chelsea, who are expected to return for Gittens when the next summer window opens on June 16.

Reports in Germany are doubling down on claims that Nico Williams is open to a move to Bayern Munich this summer after holding talks with the Bundesliga champions.

Williams remains a key target for Chelsea, but there have been major doubts about his willingness to leave Athletic Club and his sizeable wage demands, but neither seems to be an issue with regard to a potential move to Bayern.

Meanwhile, Athletic Club are desperate to hand Williams a new contract with an even larger salary and an increased release clause.

Arsenal recently made a phone call to verify their interest in Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 19-year-old is likely to be on the move this summer.

Chelsea are also in contact with the Netherlands international, with both the Blues and Arsenal targeting him after missing out on Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid.

So far, there are no concrete talks or negotiations taking place, but Hato remains one to watch for the rest of the summer.

Chelsea have named their roster for the Club World Cup and omitted some big names in a clear sign that these players have no future at the club. Among the names snubbed are Joao Felix, Djordje Petrovic, Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling.

All four were out on loan, and Chelsea have made no effort to cut their deals short so as to have them available for the tournament in the US. They did, however, end Andrey Santos' loan to Strasbourg so as to have him available.

All of the omitted players are expected to pursue transfers away.

Youngsters Kendry Paez and Mathis Amougou also did not make the trip stateside, but for different reasons. Both are expected to spend the upcoming season on loan at sister club Strasbourg.

Paez has been training with the Ligue 1 club for several weeks after arriving in Europe from his native Ecuador following his 18th birthday in early May.

Amougou, meanwhile, joined Chelsea in January but only saw limited minutes after his move from Saint-Etienne. He is expected to replace Andrey Santos at Strasbourg.
