Romano: Man City to sign Chelsea star - 'Deal almost done!'

Manchester City are set to sign third-choice Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Cityzens are in the market for a new backup shot-stopper following the announcement that Scott Carson will leave the club when his contract expires.
The 39-year-old, who previously played for Liverpool and Aston Villa, acted as Man City's third-choice keeper after joining from Derby in 2021 but only made two senior appearances, his last competitive game coming against Sporting CP in 2022.
With Carson on his way out, Man City have explored the market for a replacement, and they quickly found one in the shape of forgotten Chelsea man Marcus Bettinelli.
As reported by The Telegraph and since confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the former Fulham shot-stopper is set to make a move to the Etihad imminently.
Man City to sign Bettinelli
Romano reports that Man City's deal to sign Bettinelli is 'almost done,' but it has not been disclosed how much the 33-year-old will cost. He is still under contract until 2026, so a transfer fee will be due.
Bettinelli will help Man City fill their homegrown quota, which many clubs are now boosting with backup goalkeepers. Man Utd, for example, are currently in talks to extend the expiring contract of former England international Tom Heaton.

Earlier on Monday, Chelsea announced the departures of three young goalkeepers, with Lucas Bergstrom, Eddie Beach and Luke Campbell leaving the club when their contracts expire on June 30.
On the incoming front, Chelsea are currently in talks with AC Milan over signing French No.1 Mike Maignan before Tuesday's deadline. Should the 29-year-old arrive, the Blues would have a whopping seven senior goalkeepers on their books - even after Bettinelli's departure.
In addition to Maignan, Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Gabriel Slonina, Djordje Petrovic, Mike Penders and Kepa Arrizabalaga are returning from season-long loans, although the latter is expected to join Arsenal imminently.
