OFFICIAL: Chelsea complete €20m transfer as Maresca adds ‘great prospect’ to his squad

Chelsea have completed the signing of Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, with the Ligue 1 club confirming the news.
A deal for the 19-year-old has been in the pipeline for several months now, with RMC reporting as far back as January that a €20 million agreement had been found to take the teenager to London.
Chelsea have added Sarr to their ranks in time for him to make his debut at the Club World Cup, with the France youth international joining Liam Delap and Dario Essugo as new faces at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Strasbourg’s statement reads: “By recruiting one of the great prospects in his position from Lyon last summer, Racing made a huge impact in the transfer market.
“After a few weeks of settling in, he made his first start away in Lille last September in a 3-3 draw.
“He produced accomplished performances in his 28 appearances for Racing, including 27 starts in Ligue 1. He has become just the second player in club history under the age of 20 to make so many starts in the top-flight.
“Impressive in his maturity, his progression and his consistency, he was a valuable starter for Racing.
“The winner of 32 caps for French youth teams joins Chelsea, the recent winner of the UEFA Conference League and a participant in the next edition of the Champions League.
“The club wishes to thank Mamadou for his time in Alsace and wishes him the best for the rest of his career.”
The latest deal between Strasbourg and Chelsea
Sarr’s departure from Strasbourg to Chelsea simply underlines the bond of the two BlueCo clubs in the transfer market.
The teams have shared players freely over the course of the last couple of seasons, much to the benefit of both.
In particular, Racing have qualified for Europe next season in part thanks to Chelsea’s loan stars, Djordje Petkovic and Andrey Santos, while Diego Moreira was also signed from the Premier League outfit.
Meanwhile, Strasbourg are also set to send striker Emanuel Emegha to the London giants next summer.
