Official: Man Utd announce shock midfield signing

Manchester United have officially announced the shock signing of Manchester City midfielder Karim Cassim.

The 17-year-old helped Man City win the FA Youth Cup last season and he has now formally joined their arch-rivals following ratification from the Premier League.

A deal to sign Cassim has been finalised for several weeks and the club were simply waiting for approval to complete the transfer, which has now come. He was even spotted watching Man Utd's U18s fixture versus Charlton Athletic in August, and the Red Devils believe that he has the potential to grow into a key first-team player at Old Trafford.

That is according to a report from The Athletic, who state that Man Utd are also on the verge of completing the signings of Liverpool winger Isaac Konde and fellow Man City star David Eze.

Cassim, meanwhile, has now been unveiled as a Man Utd player and he is expected to make his debut for the club’s academy after the September international break.

JJ Gabriel transfer latest

While Man Utd have signed Cassim, and are on the verge of adding Konde and Eze, they look set to lose arguably their most prized academy asset - JJ Gabriel.

The 15-year-old has formally asked the club to terminate his contract in order to allow him to become a free agent, and his camp have already held talks with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Reigning Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the England youth international, with Gabriel widely expected to join an overseas club if Man Utd permit a departure.

It has been reported that Gabriel’s camp have grown frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities, with the 15-year-old yet to make his senior debut, while Man Utd’s decline in recent years is also regarded as a primary factor behind his desire to leave.
