Chelsea are expected to 'formalise' the signing of Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr 'in the next few hours,' according to French media.

The Blues are increasingly making a habit of getting their business done in advance. In 2023, they wrapped up the signing of Kendry Paez. The following year, they sealed a deal for Estevao. Both will finally link up with Chelsea this summer.

In March, Chelsea agreed a double deal with Sporting CP for Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo. The former will join in 2026, while the latter was officially unveiled by the Stamford Bridge club on Monday.

Now, Chelsea look set to complete another signing that has already been in the works for months. In January, reports in France revealed that the Blues had reached an agreement with BlueCo affiliate Strasbourg to sign young centre-back Mamadou Sarr.

According to L'Equipe, this deal will now be 'formalised' and finalised 'in the next few hours' and officially announced in due course.

Chelsea sign Sarr

The French publication does not reveal how much the Blues will spend on the 19-year-old, but in January, a fee of €20 million was reported, which makes sense considering that Strasbourg had paid €10m to sign him from Lyon last summer.

Sarr is coming off a brilliant season with the Ligue 1 side, and this has seen his value skyrocket. The Frenchman now boasts an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €24.7m.

The report states that Sarr will be part of Chelsea's squad for the Club World Cup, where his level will be assessed before making a final decision on whether to keep him around or loan him out.

If the Blues' hierarchy feels a loan would be beneficial, Sarr is expected to return to Strasbourg for the upcoming season. There, he would be joined by the aforementioned Paez as well as January signing Mathis Amougou.
