Jadon Sancho will officially return to Manchester United this summer after Chelsea failed to reach an agreement on personal terms with the 25-year-old.

The ex-England international joined Chelsea on a season-long loan deal last summer and the move featured an obligation to buy clause worth a reported €30 million.

However, the Blues included an option to cancel this agreement and send him back to Man Utd if they opted to pay a €6m penalty fee.

After lengthy negotiations with Sancho’s representatives, Chelsea have now decided to pay this fee in order to avoid signing the Englishman on a permanent deal this summer.

That is according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who has revealed that an agreement over personal terms couldn’t be reached between Sancho and Chelsea.

As a result, he will return to Man Utd once his loan spell at Chelsea ends on 30 June. Sancho reportedly has suitors in England and abroad, and he is understood to be assessing his options before deciding his next destination.

Sancho scored five goals and provided 10 assists in 41 appearances for Chelsea during his loan spell at the club, and he helped the Blues win the Europa Conference League final against Real Betis last week.

The 25-year-old has been tipped to remain at Man Utd next season, following news of his return to the club, although widespread reports indicate that a permanent Old Trafford departure is far more likely.

Sancho is one of several attackers set to be sold by the Red Devils this summer, along with Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.

Ruben Amorim’s side have already announced the arrival of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha, while they are pushing to finalise a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo amid their pursuit of a revamp in attack.
