The Saudi Arabian club were also willing to pay a €120m transfer fee in order to acquire his services amid their continued pursuit of the best talents in Europe.

However, Fernandes has now rejected a move to the Middle East as he wants to extend his stay at Man Utd.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “EXCLUSIVE: Bruno Fernandes has REJECTED Al Hilal proposal.

“Despite [a] crazy contract proposal from the Saudi Pro League club, Bruno Fernandes wants to continue playing football in Europe. Man United captain wants to play at [the] top level in Europe. Decision made.”

Fernandes, who scored 19 goals and provided 19 assists in 57 appearances during the 2024-25 season, has two years remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford and he is now expected to stay at the club until at least next summer.

What has Ruben Amorim said about Bruno Fernandes?

Speaking to reporters on Man Utd’s post-season tour of Asia, amid rumours that Fernandes would depart, Amorim admitted: “You can see by the performance, the leadership, the passion he [Fernandes] has for the games. So it is really important, especially in these kinds of moments.

“You could see that in the last game [versus Aston Villa]. I felt that the team was without pressure; they performed quite well and everybody wanted the ball.

“The team has different moments and in different moments, Bruno is the one who really wants to take responsibility.

“He should be because he is the captain, so he's really important for us and really important for what we want to build with this team.”
