Chelsea in talks to complete €60m Jamie Gittens transfer

Chelsea are reportedly in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens before the start of the 2025 Club World Cup.
The England U21 international has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months and they have now stepped up their pursuit of his signature as they look to land a new left winger this summer.
The Blues have identified Gittens as a key transfer target due to Mykhailo Mudryk’s ongoing doping suspension and Jadon Sancho’s uncertain future at the club, and they are now pushing to reach an agreement during the early June transfer window.
The presence of the Club World Cup led FIFA to introduce a small transfer window from 1-10 June and Chelsea are hoping to finalise a deal for Gittens before they jet off to the United States of America to compete in the new-look tournament.
That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Chelsea are now locked in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a possible move for Gittens.
The 20-year-old spent time in Chelsea’s academy as a youngster and Enzo Maresca’s side are looking to finalise a deal to bring him back to the club during the current transfer window.
Gittens reportedly has a release clause worth around €60 million (£50m) and Chelsea are now “fully focused” on signing the Englishman amid their pursuit of a new left winger.

Who will Chelsea sign this summer?
In addition to Gittens, Chelsea are also interested in Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.
The former is also being chased by Arsenal, while the latter has reportedly set his sights on securing a Stamford Bridge switch this summer after falling out with Ruben Amorim.
Chelsea have already completed the signings of Estevao Willian, Kendry Paez and Dario Essugo this summer, and they have also reached a full agreement to purchase Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap for a fee of €35m.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix will almost certainly depart Chelsea ahead of the 2025-26 campaign after failing to break into Maresca’s preferred starting XI.
The expert's opinion on Jamie Gittens to Chelsea
Bundesliga expert Ronan Murphy says: "Jamie Gittens couldn’t get minutes at Borussia Dortmund under Niko Kovac, so what makes anyone think he’ll get time at Chelsea? Sure, he started the season strongly for Borussia Dortmund but that was relative to everyone else in a midtable team.
"Kovac came in and made them good again. And he did that by cutting Gittens from the team because his defensive work didn’t fit the approach he needed. What approach was that? Winning football matches.
"Gittens scored some big goals last season but he is still a hugely unfinished talent. He’s very raw to move to Chelsea now, and it feels like he will follow the path of so many of their recent signings and end up playing for another club in a couple of years after wasting some of his early career."
