Leeds United have made a €26 million bid for Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra, according to French media.

The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the biggest stars at the Ligue 1 outfit in recent seasons. Despite his tender years, Diarra is already the captain of Strasbourg after coming through the club's academy.

A versatile, all-action midfielder, Diarra has become one of the most reliable midfielders in the French top flight, and he was a big reason for the success head coach Liam Rosenior enjoyed in his first season in Alsace.

Naturally, Diarra's performances have earned him admirers. BlueCo-owned Strasbourg already fielded interest in the youngster last year. However, the Ligue 1 side decided to turn down bids from Wolves and RC Lens.

The thinking at the time was that Diarra has what it takes to kick on and become a player good enough for Chelsea. There is still a chance for the Senegal-born star to follow in the footsteps of Mamadou Sarr and Emanuel Emegha and join the Blues, but his future could also lie elsewhere.

Leeds make Diarra bid

According to L'Equipe, newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United have made a €26 million bid for Diarra. So far, Strasbourg have yet to indicate whether they are willing to accept the offer or to reject it.

Racing and BlueCo, it is claimed, are waiting to see how the market shakes up ahead of the deadline on Tuesday before making a decision. The Premier League transfer window will reopen on June 16.

Diarra is under contract for three more years, so Strasbourg are under no pressure to sell. Indeed, they could be hoping for a bidding war as there are more suitors for the 21-year-old.

It is claimed that clubs from Germany as well as other English sides are keeping a close eye on developments. Leeds have cast the first stone, it remains to be seen if more admirers will follow suit or if Chelsea perhaps even step in to reiterate that he is a player of interest to them.
