Fabrizio Romano has made a prediction about how Manchester United’s transfer chase for Bryan Mbeumo will develop.

Man Utd have been credited with an interest in the Brentford attacker for weeks but have faced competition from Tottenham Hotspur over the Cameroon international star.

Romano forecasts a happy ending for the Red Devils in this case, having revealed to his YouTube channel that Mbeumo sees the switch to Old Trafford as a “dream” development in his career.

Based on the evidence that the football transfer news expert has seen, he believes this is a move that Man Utd will get over the line as their second major transfer of the summer.

“Manchester United maintain their optimism about reaching an agreement with Brentford,” he said. “We know they have an agreement with the player.

“What I can add today is that the player has been clear with Brentford. Mbeumo is really in a great relationship with Brentford, but he’s been clear in this case, telling them that going to Manchester United is a dream move.

“Man Utd improved their bid in recent days – in excess of £60m package. Negotiations are well underway and they are clear favourites to sign him. There’s a very good chance Bryan Mbeumo will be the second signing of the summer after Matheus Cunha.”

How close is a deal?

On Tuesday, Romano reported a new bid worth more than €70m was made by Man Utd for Mbeumo. Brentford have previously suggested that they will hold out for the same type of money that Wolves received for Cunha.

That means that Ruben Amorim’s club may have to find another €3m in order to get the transfer done, although subsequent reports suggest an agreement has been found.

Clearly, there is still work to be done, but by Romano’s estimation, Mbeumo will be a Man Utd player sooner rather than later.
