Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer would be 'open' to a move to Manchester United, according to journalist Miguel Delaney.

The Blues' season has turned somewhat sour in recent months as the early excitement of Enzo Maresca's reign has dissipated. Even though Chelsea will likely cruise into the Conference League final - and be the favourites to win it - their uninspired performances and inconsistent results in the Premier League have seen fans turn on the head coach.

This slump has also affected Palmer, who has failed to live up to his status as Chelsea's star man. The attacker has been left searching for his usual coolness and creativity so far in 2025, and this has put his name increasingly in the headlines.

Pundit Jamie Carragher has repeatedly stated that Palmer could consider leaving Chelsea if they fail to consistently get into the Champions League, despite the fact that his contract at Stamford Bridge still runs until 2033.

There have been tenuous links with other Premier League clubs, chiefly Liverpool, his former side Man City and even struggling Man Utd. It must be said, though, that a summer transfer appears incredibly unlikely.

Palmer 'open' to Man Utd move

Despite this, the future of Palmer has certainly been a talking point in recent weeks. In fact, according to journalist Miguel Delaney of The Independent, Palmer would be open to a move to Man Utd should the possibility arise.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Back Pages Podcast, Delaney emphasised that a transfer is highly improbable but conceded that Man Utd - and indeed most clubs - would surely jump at the chance to sign Palmer.

“So many clubs would want Cole Palmer and Manchester United are one who would," he said. "If there was any sort of possibility, they’d seriously go for him. And I think he would be open to it, but really, there’s no possibility to happen this summer.”

While only a hypothetical, this is still a somewhat surprising comment considering that Man Utd are in even worse shape as a club than Chelsea. Surely going to Man Utd would actually be a step backwards.
