Arsenal launch Antony bid after claims agreement is ‘very close’

Arsenal are reportedly making tracks to sign Antony from Manchester United in what would be a shock summer transfer.
Brazil international Antony flopped at Man Utd following a €95 million move from Ajax in 2022 and was sent on loan to Real Betis during the January transfer window.
He has enjoyed something of a renaissance in Seville, with his latest contribution to the club’s cause a strike in their 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the Conference League semi-finals on Thursday. In total, he has delivered six goals and four assists for Los Beticos across 19 matches.
Man Utd now hope to move Antony on a permanent basis, with Arsenal one of the major clubs monitoring the progress of the 25-year-old, according to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte.
It is claimed that the Gunners, along with Atletico Madrid, are following the case of the winger, who is expected to fetch between €30-40m in the summer transfer market.
This still represents decent money for Antony given that he has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of just €22.7m.

Antony: Spanish media takes strong line on Man Utd star’s future
The Arsenal transfer links come in contrast to those from Seville, where there is a belief that Antony will remain with Real Betis for another year.
Estadio Deportivo has claimed that the Brazilian is likely to remain on loan for another season, going so far as to claim last month that an agreement is already “very close”.
"It’s crystal clear," the outlet quotes vice-president Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan as saying. "Relations are very good with all three parties, and we’re doing everything in our power. Now, we’re going to complete the season, see how we finish and whether we’re in the Champions League or not.
“Then, we’ll sit down and negotiate. It was much more difficult to bring him in in January than for him to stay for another year now. It will depend on many things, but we have options, and we’re very clear about that, of course.”
While Antony going to Arsenal would rate as a huge shock, it would be a logical move for him to stay with Real Batis for one more year.

While Real Madrid may wish a sale, it may be difficult to manufacture given his large wages and chronic physical unreliability over the course of the last 18 months. Alaba would certainly represent a major gamble for any buying club.
