Jamie Gittens to Chelsea: Truth revealed amid swap deal rumours

Chelsea’s interest in Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jamie Gittens has been confirmed amid rumours that the Blues are targeting a swap deal with the Bundesliga side.
Gittens has been with BVB since leaving Manchester City in 2020 and now the Stamford Bridge club want to repeat the success they have had with another Etihad graduate in Cole Palmer by signing the England U21 star.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakout campaign with Dortmund, despite a difficult season for the club as a whole. In the Bundesliga, he has posted eight goals and four assists in 29 appearances, although his impact has been reduced lately.
This has fuelled the suggestion that he could make a summer move to Chelsea, which is a rumour that has been verified by Sky Sport Deutschland.
Florian Plettenberg says the Blues do want to sign Gittens but there are presently no talks regarding a swap deal with Carney Chukwuemeka, who is currently on loan at the Bundesliga club.

He tweeted: “A swap deal between Dortmund and Chelsea involving Jamie Gittens and Carney Chukwuemeka is not currently being considered.
“Chelsea are very keen to sign Gittens and have made their interest clear to the player’s camp. However, there is no agreement, commitment, or negotiation between the clubs at this stage.
“Gittens remains an option for Bayern, but the current focus is firmly on the potential transfer of Florian Wirtz.”
Blues ready to spend big on Gittens
Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with Gittens, but Chelsea are seeking an edge in the transfer battle by offering the youngster twice as much money as he is currently earning at Dortmund.
BVB have reportedly reduced their asking price for Gittens to just €50 million – which is well below his currently Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €63m.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the young Englishman, who is under contract until 2028, is the potential he has to exploit. SciSports states that he has a potential ceiling higher than that of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, which is no doubt part of Chelsea’s thinking as they continue to build a team of exciting young talents.
