EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool and Newcastle among clubs monitoring 19-year-old Bundesliga sensation

Liverpool and Newcastle are among those looking at Hugo Larsson of Eintracht Frankfurt, FootballTransfers can reveal, but it’s Tottenham who are intensifying their efforts to secure the signature of the 19-year-old.

We understand that the player's agent is currently engaged in discussions with a number of European clubs, but Spurs have emerged as the frontrunners.

The youngster has drummed up substantial interest for his displays in the Bundesliga this term and sources close to the situation have informed us that Spurs manager, Ange Postecoglou, is actively seeking a young box-to-box midfielder - someone similar to Rodrigo Bentancur.

It’s thought that Larsson has caught Postecoglou's eye as a player capable of fulfilling that role and potentially challenging Bentancur for his position within the squad down the line.

Larsson's journey to the English top-flight has been on the cards for some time. In January, he turned down a move to Bournemouth, we are told, as he was of the belief that a transition from Malmo FF in Sweden to the Premier League was too daunting a prospect at the time.

However, recent developments suggest a change of heart for Larsson - his agent has successfully convinced him that the timing is now perfect for a move to England.

Eintracht Frankfurt are expected to demand a substantial fee for the player, particularly with his contract expiring in 2028.

Moving away from Chelsea

Indeed, when he was 17, Larsson was training with Chelsea for a brief period but decided to head to Malmo to develop.

"It was of course a great experience to train with Chelsea. I trained with the team and was even allowed to go to a tournament in Belgium. I also scored a goal there.

"It was a little too early. For me, it was better to continue my development at home in Malmö. I will first break through in MFF before I go abroad," Larsson told Kvallposten.

"I did not think it would happen so fast. It's very special. Both Ola Toivonen and Anders Christiansen are players that I look up to a lot. They give me tips in almost every workout."
