Bayern Munich have set a new asking price for Alphonso Davies, which may yet blow open the race to sign him.

The Canadian left-back has been the subject of intense transfer speculation for months. Real Madrid have been hot on his heels since last year and recent reports have suggested that Los Blancos have made massive progress in their bid to sign him.

It has been claimed that Davies has already agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants after Bayern Munich made it clear that stars will now have to properly earn new, big-money deals after this disappointing season. The left-back is out of contract in 2025 and Bayern want him to renew, but his wage demands have reportedly made an extension unlikely.

Davies' move to Real Madrid appeared to be picking up steam, but a fresh report out of Germany threatens to derail the 23-year-old's summer plans.

Bayern's new asking price

BILD now claims that contract talks between the Canadian's camp and Bayern have officially failed. This is good news for Madrid, obviously, but the report goes on to mention that Bayern have hiked up their asking price, which may yet throw a spanner in the works.

For months, it has been reported that a figure in the region of €50 million would be enough to complete the signing of Davies in the summer. However, if the German outlet is to be believed, it might actually require closer to €70m to get Bayern to sell.

This is potentially a problem for Real Madrid because, according to Fabrizio Romano, Los Blancos have no intention of paying 'crazy money' for Davies given that they are also working on snapping up Kylian Mbappe, which will necessitate the parting with an astronomical signing fee.

This gives hope to other clubs interested in Davies, who had already resigned themselves to missing out on him. It has previously been reported that Liverpool and Man City are keen but have accepted that a move to the Spanish capital is his preference.

Man Utd have also been tentatively linked with the Canadian and this latest news may yet prompt a summer rethink. According to Romano, Man Utd's idea is to sign a young left-back in the summer, but if Davies to Real Madrid falls through, it would be a major statement of intent from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company to pursue the 23-year-old.
