Romano reveals FIVE Man Utd transfers collapsed in the summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed five players that Manchester United missed out on in recent months.

The Red Devils experienced a strange summer. Financial Fair Play and the still-ongoing takeover saga loomed large over the club's transfer window. Erik ten Hag and company did not have the necessary funds available to get all of the Dutchman's priority signings in, though many, like Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat, did arrive.

Nevertheless, there were some players that Man Utd could have also - or instead - signed, and Fabrizio Romano has given the low-down on some of the Red Devils' failed deals on his YouTube channel.

Arguably the biggest name Man Utd were interested in but missed out on was Adrien Rabiot. A long-time target of Ten Hag, the Frenchman was out of contract but ultimately decided to extend his stay at Juventus by one year. "He was considered by the club," Romano said, "but they wanted Mason Mount in that position as a priority target."

Kokcu interest?

While Man Utd's interest in Rabiot is well-known, Romano also revealed that the Red Devils have been eyeing another midfielder for some time. "Another name considered in that position was [Orkun] Kokcu, the Feyenoord midfielder who joined Benfica." The Turkey international had been scouted by the Red Devils even before Ten Hag joined.

Romano also reiterated that United missed out on Chelsea's Marc Cucurella because the player and the club were not keen on the January break clause Man Utd wanted and he revealed that the Manchester club had the chance to sign Axel Disasi but he ended up joining the Blues instead.

Finally, Romano shed light on a forward option: Marcus Thuram. Like his compatriot Rabiot, the Frenchman was a free agent in the summer and considered by the Red Devils, but Ten Hag wanted to target a more traditional number nine like Rasmus Hojlund rather than the versatile Thuram who is better suited in a front two as he is currently showing at Inter.
