Chelsea have been told to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale following a blunder by No.1 Robert Sanchez in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with the Gunners.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side appeared to be in a winning position as they held a 2-0 advantage over their rivals at Stamford Bridge with time running out. Sanchez’s loose pass, though, allowed Declan Rice to start a comeback for the Gunners.

With Kepa Arrizabalaga allowed to join Real Madrid on loan in the summer, Chelsea are lacking depth in this area and former Premier League striker Robbie Earle has advised them to recruit Ramsdale.

The England keeper is presently on the bench for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta having made the bold decision to drop him in favour of David Raya.

Having made noises about leaving the club in January to ensure he is in the England squad for Euro 2024, the door is open for a January deal for a player with an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €37 million.

“If I’m Chelsea, I’m phoning up and saying I’ll take Ramsdale, give me Ramsdale my friend. If you’re not going to use him, because Ramsdale is at the level you’re talking about,” he told The Two Robbies.

“Ramsdale’s talking about he’ll have to go and play somewhere if he’s going to be in the Euros. If he’s overlooked by Arteta – I don’t know why Arteta wants the two goalkeepers and all that, and we’ve heard all the reasons behind it – if I’m Chelsea right now, I’d go and put it amongst them. I’d take Ramsdale because he’s at the level you’re talking about that Chelsea need.”

Supporters say no to Ramsdale

Chelsea fans, though, are unimpressed by the advice.

“Ramsdale? Hell No. I mean why on Earth should we even consider him when he's not even a better stopper than Sanchez,” one replied.

“They're both elite when it comes to shot-stopping but be aware that Aaron also makes silly mistakes just like Sanchez.”

Another said: “Ramsdale is a good keeper but I think we have one in Sanchez, let’s see how he plays till January then we no if we are going for Aaron.”

The overall sentiment was summed up by another who added: “I will say no to Ramsdale thanks.”

The message from the Chelsea support is clear: Sanchez remains their favoured keeper over Ramsdale.
