Boyd's column

Writing in his Scottish Sun column, Boyd lauded the manager, going as far as to say he was better than Klopp and Ten Hag in a certain regard.

Boyd wrote in his column: "There are Scotland players who work under managers regarded as the best in the business at club level. Unai Emery, Erik Ten Hag, Roberto de Zerbi, Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp are all top operators.

"But, if you ask John McGinn, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Callum McGregor or Andy Robertson then I’m sure they will tell you Steve Clarke is as good as any of them.

"I’d be willing to bet that when it comes to tactics and organisational nous then he’s arguably even better.

"I’ve never made any secret of the fact Walter Smith was the best man-manager I’ve ever played for. However, in terms of coaching and being on the grass with players Clarke is on another level completely.

"You don't get employed by Newcastle, Liverpool and Chelsea unless you are elite. How Kilmarnock managed to get someone of his calibre is quite incredible when you think about it.

"Now Scotland is benefiting from his expertise and they are absolutely flying."
