Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United to sign for La Liga side Getafe.

The Man Utd forward had been informed he would not be retained at the club this summer after 18 months' suspension following an internal investigation into his private life.

Greenwood has been inactive since he was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and other violent charges in January 2020.

And while those charges have since been withdrawn, he has been obliged to seek alternative employment after United confirmed they would not take him back into the first-team squad.

Few clubs came forward for the attacker, but Getafe ultimately made a surprise move for him on Deadline Day after speculation that he could move to Turkey or Lazio.

The Athletic broke the news that the La Liga club were confident they would be able to complete a loan move for Greenwood before the window closed, and this was confirmed shortly before the deadline.

It is unclear at this point whether United will receive a fee for the transaction, as the Reds have come under pressure from anti-domestic violence charities not to profit from his exit.

Greenwood had played 129 games for United prior to his arrest and suspension, scoring 35 goals, while he picked up his sole England cap as a substitute against Iceland in September 2020.
