Liverpool are reportedly preparing to hijack Manchester United's pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat.

The Fiorentina midfielder, who starred at the 2022 World Cup for Morocco, is ready to take the next step in his career.

A move to Old Trafford had seemed likely, but Amrabat could now be playing at Anfield this season.

According to Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld, Liverpool are targeting the 26-year-old after missing out on their top transfer targets.

The Reds had wanted to sign Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia but lost out on both to Chelsea.

They are close to completing an €18 million move for Stuttgart captain Wataru Endo, however, but will try to bring in another player too, having let go of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner this summer.

Liverpool's Chelsea embarrassment

In a bizarre saga, Moises Caicedo seemed destined to move to Chelsea all summer before Liverpool swooped in and offered £110 million on Thursday.

And it did seem as though Liverpool had stolen the most in demand defensive midfielder on the market from under the Blues' nose.

However, Chelsea convinced Caicedo to hold out for a move to Stamford Bridge while they worked on agreeing a transfer fee with Brighton.

A deal has since been agreed and he could make his debut for the west London club on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Romeo Lavia, viewed as the best alternative to Caicedo, was expected to be signed by the club that lost out on the Ecuadorian - in this case, Liverpool.

But Chelsea are now reportedly close to finalising a £58m deal for the Southampton wonderkid too.
