EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea open talks with Brighton over Conor Gallagher transfer

Brighton are talking to Conor Gallagher’s representatives over a possible deal from Chelsea, FootballTransfers has been told.

Sources have informed us that the Englishman is open to a move to the Amex Stadium and a fee would not be a problem between the two clubs, who have done a substantial amount of business together already in recent times.

Brighton remain in the hunt to bring in another midfielder to the squad before the window shuts on Friday.

Roberto De Zerbi is a big fan of Gallagher, given the relentless pressing and running that the 23-year-old offers on the pitch, and now his club are in dialogue with the player’s agents.

At this point, Gallagher’s future at Stamford Bridge still remains uncertain - the Blues recently brought in Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to the setup, so game-time could be limited for the former Crystal Palace loanee.

Is it thought that Chelsea have put a £50million price-tag on their academy graduate amid a possible move away from West London.

Tottenham and West Ham have been linked with a move for Gallagher before in this window, but nothing went beyond initial discussions.

Chelsea’s summer departures

There has been some discontent among Chelsea personnel about the club’s new philosophy of selling off some of the players who came from the club’s youth programme, with Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek already departing on a permanent basis and Lewis Hall joining Newcastle.

But Gallagher is in search of game-time ahead of the European Championships next summer and has been sounding out possible new ventures.

Bayern Munich have also been mentioned as liking Gallagher, as well as Trevoh Chalobah, another player from the youth setup, with Thomas Tuchel looking to bring some of his former Chelsea players to Germany.

Despite the extensive interest, Mauricio Pochettino has openly expressed how happy he is with Gallagher’s progress under his stewardship and believes that he has a big part of the side going forward.

FootballTransfers’ Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) algorithm ranks Gallagher’s price at around €33.1m, while he is contracted at Chelsea until June 2025.
