The Spaniard recently emerged as a surprise target for the Gunners to offer competition for Aaron Ramsdale. Raya had turned down the chance to head on loan to Bayern Munich and was keen to make the switch to north London.

Now, he appears to be on the verge of getting his wish. After days of negotiations, Arsenal and Brentford have agreed on a transfer fee for the wantaway goalkeeper. Raya has been convinced that he has outgrown Thomas Frank's team for months, but no deal had materialised until now because of the Bees' asking price.

Despite the 27-year-old only having one year left on his contract and with a replacement already long since signed in Mark Flekken, Brentford were keen to squeeze as much money out of his departure as possible, reportedly demanding between €40 and €50 million. Many suitors were put off by this demand, but Arsenal were undeterred.
