Kieran Tierney has been offered a surprise route out of Arsenal by La Liga side Real Sociedad, according to reports.

Tierney has become surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta, with Oleksandr Zinchenko the Spaniard's first-choice left-back, while Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu - both right footers - have been used in the Ukrainian's injury-enforced stead in pre-season.

A £25 million arrival from Celtic in 2019, Tierney has been linked with a return to Parkhead this summer, while Newcastle and Manchester City were previously credited with an interest in the Scotland international.

But now Real Sociedad has emerged as a potential destination for the defender, who is growing impatient about his lack of first-team minutes at the Emirates.

"Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney is wanted by Spanish side Real Sociedad, who are hoping to sign the Scotland international on loan this summer," reports the Telegraph's Sam Dean.

Sociedad's loan offer

"Sources in Spain have said that Sociedad, who will be playing in the Champions League next season, are now hoping to capitalise on the situation by offering a 12-month loan."

Sociedad finished fourth in La Liga behind champions Barcelona, runners-up Real Madrid and third-place Atletico Madrid last season, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 10 years.

They have already signed Portugal striker Andre Silva on loan from RB Leipzig, and are set to conclude a similar deal for Manchester United flop Donny van de Beek.

Tierney is currently valued at €33.5m by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm - a fee that would likely put him out of Sociedad's reach if they wanted to make his stay permanent next summer.

Celtic would also struggle to match that number. Newcastle and City might not have the same problem, but they recently spent significant sums on defenders Tino Livramento and Josko Gvardiol respectively.
